lyrics

The iron tower of Union
Is riddled with decay
The emperor in his palace
Turns his face away
The brightest souls of labour
Have found their final rest
And I who sweat and toil
Remember them in death

Wherever workers suffered
A scarlet flag would fly
They would come to help us
They heard our mournful cry
Out front with the strikers
On them we did rely
They would keep us going
Always at our side

Our leaders are corrupted
Their greed they do not hide
While men in high positions
Eat lobster and sip wine
The red flag hangs in tatters
But there, in the promised land
The angels are out striking
Against their master's hand

Who will raise our standard?
Who will sound the drum?
Oh brothers, and my sisters
The fight is not yet won
And though they may lie fallow
The dreams which have been sown
Will never be forgotten
In any working home
